(cepInput) Environmental Taxation in France

In France there is a wide range of environmental taxes, especially for the transport sector. The bonus-malus system is considered relatively successful in reducing CO₂ emissions from new vehicles, although rebound effects reduce its effectiveness. In addition, the country has also increased its non-energy environmental taxes this year. A further increase is recommended but would require improving the social acceptability of these taxes, which could be achieved by redistributing part of their revenue to households and industries.
