Single Digital Gateway (Regulation)

The EU Commission wants to strengthen the Single Market and, to this end, set up an online portal providing information which citizens and businesses need in order to carry out cross-border activities in the EU. In addition, they will be able to use the portal to access and implement online administrative procedures of the Member States. Certain administrative procedures of the Member States will also be digitised.

Status

In cep’s view, the proposed Regulation makes it easier to locate online administrative procedures of the Member States and ensures that they can also be carried out by people from other EU countries. The digitisation of certain administrative procedures of the Member States also reduces the costs of carrying out these procedures for citizens and businesses. However, Member States should only be obliged to digitise such administrative procedures where they can be shown to improve the functioning of the Single Market.
