In cep’s view, state support for renewable energy (RES-support) is not - by contrast with emissions trading – a targeted or cost-effective way of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Even after 2020, Member States are allowed too much scope for developing inefficient RES-support schemes which will stifle EU-wide competition for the best locations and technologies for generating RES-electricity.
