An expert group of the EU Commission plans to present recommendations on an EU standard for green bonds in mid-June. In a cepInput, the cep gives an overview of the market for green bonds in the EU and analyses the initial proposals of the expert group for the development of the standard.

From the cep's point of view, there is no convincing reason to establish a public EU standard for green bonds, as there are already standards developed by market players that are widely accepted. In any case, the voluntary nature of the standard is central. It should not become obligatory for market players through the back door via the link to the EU taxonomy for sustainable investments.
