"Investigative Tool" for the Internal Market (Regulation)
In future, the EU Commission is to be able to oblige undertakings to submit information. It thereby wants to ensure better enforcement of EU law and better preparation of legislative measures. This could also allow easier investigation and proof of infringements of internal market rules.

In cep’s view, this proposed Regulation will strengthen the internal market. However, it is unclear whether the Commission will also be able to transmit information to the Member States in order for them to take action against undertakings that are in breach of EU law. It is also unclear whether confidential information is sufficiently protected.
