Health Inequalities (Communication)

The Commission aims to eliminate “health inequalities“ between Member States, different population groups and between men and women. To this end, it plans to have the data base on health inequalities in the EU extended, to promote the exchange of best practices and to fund these actions through the framework of cohesion policy.

cepPolicyBrief

Cohesion policy should serve to improve economic development. The Member States themselves should decide on their priorities in health policy and not be pushed to act according to priorities set by the Commission. The strengthened use of the Open Method of Coordination threatens to cause a gradual erosion of the allocation of competences in the EU.
