This year, both the EU and the OECD have presented their own ethics guidelines for the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). A cepInput compares the two guidelines.

From the cep's point of view, there are no significant differences between the EU and OECD guidelines. Both aim to create a framework for a trustworthy AI. The EU guidelines are clearer and more detailed; the OECD guidelines are given special weight by the G20 Heads of State and Government adopting them as their guidelines. Against the background of intended EU legislation on AI, the cep warns against making guidelines binding. Binding AI guidelines would be a competitive disadvantage and would prevent the EU from catching up with the US and China.
