Posting of Drivers (Directive)

A new Directive aims to improve the working conditions of posted drivers and ensure fair competition between hauliers. In cep’s view, however, the Directive disproportionately restricts price competition and the freedom to provide services.

cepPolicyBrief

The Directive provides that, in future, all wage provisions of the host Member State will apply as from the fourth day in the case of cross-border carriage and as from the first day in the case of cabotage. As a result, posting drivers from Member States with a low wage level to those with a high wage level will become considerably more expensive. This will increase the overall price of transport services and restrict the efficiency of the internal market.
