Paris Agreement on Climate Change: EU Commission promotes ratification

For a speedy ratification of the Paris climate agreement, the European Commission has presented a proposal which now requires the approval of the European Parliament and of the Council of the EU countries. At the same time, the EU Member States must also ratify the Paris Agreement.

In cep's view, the Paris Agreement is a necessary step towards effective climate protection. However, the Commission's assertion that the provisions on carbon leakage are "balanced" is not shared by cep expert Götz Reichert: "Carbon leakage must be prevented, in order to truly protect the climate globally."
