Germany's Spahn: We want to support Britain wherever we can

British Prime Minister David Cameron is raising “some right questions” in seeking to limit welfare-state benefits for immigrants from other EU member states, Germany’s Deputy Finance Minister Jens Spahn said in an interview with Bloomberg Television. “We want the U.K. to stay in the European Union and we want to support the United Kingdom wherever we can to make it possible,” Spahn explained in the interview.

EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said Friday he was confident the EU would be able to reach a deal with Britain on a reform of the European Union, Politico reported. “I am quite sure we will have a deal — not a compromise, a solution, a permanent solution — in February,” Juncker said according to Politico. Cameron wants to reform Britain's relationship with the EU before a membership referendum due by the end of 2017. The cep, however, believes that Cameron will not be able to push through major reform changes in his negotiations with the leaders of the other EU member states.
