Draghis says refugee crisis is an opportunity for EU member states

The ECB President stressed, though, that it was important that EU leaders worked together to turn the challenge of coping with refugees

ECB President Mario Draghi said Friday in a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos that the current influx of refugees can address the looming demographic problems faced in EU member states where populations are ageing fast. Draghi reckoned that the refugees crisis would also boost public spending in the most concerned EU states and thereby support GDP growth. The ECB head stressed, though, that it was important that EU leaders worked together to turn the challenge of coping with refugees, adding he was “pretty confident” they would get their act together in the end.
