Merkel calls for EU's emissions trading system to become a global instrument
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called for the EU’s emissions trading system to become a global system. "This instrument would of course be particularly effective if we could introduce it beyond Europe because then we'd have the same general framework around the world," Merkel said in her weekly video podcast. Merkel and France’s President Francois Hollande will attend on Tuesday the “Petersberg Climate Dialogue” in Berlin, to prepare for the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris in December. The informal talks were launched by Merkel in 2010. See also our cepPolicyBrief on the EU Commission’s latest preparations for the UN Climate Change Conference.
