EU's Sefcovic to broker further gas talks with Russia and Ukraine mid-April
EU Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic said on Wednesday he was aiming to broker more talks between Russia and Ukraine around the middle of April to try to extend a discount on gas prices for Kiev, Reuters reported. Ukraine’s main state-run energy firm Naftogaz said on Monday that the EU Commission had proposed extending the firm's current gas supply deal with Russian producer Gazprom until April 2016. Russian and Ukrainian Energy Ministers Alexander Novak and Vladimir Demchishin, along with Sefcovic, already held talks in Brussels on March 20 to discuss the terms of a “summer package” of Russian natural gas supplies to Ukraine.
