EU Transport Ministers will discuss Friday the 4th railway package proposals. Specifically, they will look at a proposed directive and regulation which aim to open up domestic rail transport services to competition, and to improve governance of railways. The proposals are part of the governance and market opening pillar of the 4th railway package. “It will be especially interesting to see under which conditions vertically integrated rail companies will be allowed to further operate,” says cep traffic expert Nima Nader. The 4th railway package contains altogether six proposals by the EU Commission.
