The EU Commission Vice President for the Digital Single Market, Andrus Ansip, told the news agency Reuters that EU member states were "not ambitious enough today" regarding the abolition of roaming surcharges in Europe. cep telecommunications expert Phillipp Eckhardt, however, believes that a swift end to roaming surcharges would be problematic. He notes that wholesale prices for roaming and domestic services in the EU member states are currently varying a lot. “The result of an abolition of roaming surcharges would be a forced cross-subsidization between domestic and foreign connections,” Eckhardt explains.
