Energy use in EU down to lowest levels since 1995
Energy consumption in the European Union dropped in 2013 to the lowest level since 1995, according to new numbers released by the European statistic agency Eurostat. “One reason is still the economic crisis,” cep energy expert Moritz Bonn told news agency AFP. Energy saving measures such as parameters for the energy use in houses and cars as well as the European emission trading scheme for the industry have also cut energy consumption in the EU. Moreover, the former Soviet satellite states are gradually replacing their old power stations with more efficient ones, Bonn pointed out.
