eCall: Automatic emergency call devices in all new car models from 2018

cep traffic expert Nima Nader: eCall will contribute to road safety by allowing emergency services to be at accident locations faster

EU Parliament gives green light to eCall

Emergency call devices that automatically alert rescue services to car crashes will have to be fitted to all new models of cars and light vans by 31 March 2018 under rules voted by the EU Parliament on Tuesday. The eCall in-vehicle system will use 112 emergency call technology to alert the emergency services to serious road accidents automatically. cep traffic expert Nima Nader welcomed the decision: “The eCall system will contribute to road safety by allowing emergency services to be at accident locations faster, thereby reducing the number of deaths.” Road accidents took 25,700 lives in the EU in 2014 – a death toll that the new devices could cut by an estimated 10 percent a year, the EU Parliament said in a press release.
